Commercial energy storage for less than 10 Cent/kWh from Tesvolt
At the EES in Munich, more and more companies were exhibiting commercial energy storage systems. Most of them have a modular design, so the current buffer has to fit optimally to the customer. An interesting business model is to shave load peaks.
Constantly declining energy storage prices seem to be of interest to an increasing number of companies in industry and industry. Costs can fall below 10 Cents/kWh with the high-voltage system TS HV 70 including battery inverters, Simon Schandert, Technical Manager at Tesvolt says. At this price, commercial energy storage systems would be economically feasible for many companies. How does the calculation look like?
Tesvolt: Return of invest of seven years
Let’s go: End customers have to pay 49,000 Euro for the battery storage system including installation costs. They are allocated on 8,000 cycles and 67 kWh with and 92 percent efficiency for the complete system. According to Tesvolt the discharge depth is 100 percent. This adds to ten cents per kWh, exactly 10.1 cents/jkWh. A figure that makes the system attractive for the volume market of commercial energy storage systems, Tesvolt says. “Applications in combination with the leveling of peak load already pay off within five to seven years”, Schandert says. Starting November 2017 the new system will be delivered, he announces. The systems are designed for indoor installation, but can also be ordered via containers.
Network system services
Tesvolt specializes in battery energy storage systems for commercial and industrial applications. The systems can be configured flexible and their capacity can be expanded. With the TS HV 70 applications such as load peak shaving and increased self-consumption are possible. The high-voltage storage with a charging rate of 1C also provides various network system services as well as off-grid operation when optimizing a diesel generator.
Tesvolt is optimized for SMA inverters
The cycle life of the system is up to 30 years according to the company. It has a battery voltage of 575 to 1,000 volts and has been optimized for operation with the three-phase SMA Sunny Tripower Storage battery inverters. The SMA inverter was developed together with Tesvolt and can be obtained directly from the company from Wittenberg. A system TS HV 70 with a capacity of 60 kilowatts can be used to connect up to four batteries of 67 kilowatt hours each, ie a total of 268 kilowatt hours. This allows storage of up to several megawatts.
Tesvolt uses prismatic cells from Samsung SDI
The prismatic cells that Tesvolt sources from Samsung SDI are very durable and safe. In combination with active battery management, which optimally balances and optimizes the charging state of each individual cell, defects and damages of the system can be prevented, Tesvolt says.
