Govt Decarbonisation Scheme Offers up to 100% of Costs
Grants for public sector bodies to fund energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures.
The Government has launched the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme which offers huge savings on public sector decarbonisation projects. The innovative new scheme will offer up to 100% of costs in an effort to continue the work towards a carbon-neutral future across the UK.
The Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme (PSDS) provides grants for public sector bodies to fund energy efficiency and heat decarbonisation measures.
Decarbonisation Scheme Offers up to 100% of Costs
The £1 billion scheme is part of the Chancellor’s ‘Plan for Jobs 2020’ commitment to support the UK’s economic recovery from COVID-19, supporting up to 30,000 skilled jobs in the low carbon and energy efficiency sectors. The scheme also supports the government’s net zero and clean growth goals. It will reduce non-traded carbon emissions from the public sector by up to 0.1 MtCO2e/year and up to 0.5 MtCO2e over each of Carbon Budgets 4 and 5. This is equivalent to taking nearly 45,000 cars off the road.
The scheme is managed by the BEIS delivery body Salix Finance.
The following sectors are able to apply for the scheme and take advantage of significant cost-reduction:
- Emergency services
- Institutions of Higher Education
- Local Authorities
- NHS and Foundation Trusts
- Schools
- Central Government
If you are undertaking a project involving any of those sectors in the following year, make sure you apply for the Grant, as this could prove extremely beneficial in securing large-scale projects in the next year. The deadline for application is 11th Jan 2021.
