The Studer MBC 24-03/1 3A 24V Battery Charger provides specific charging for 1, 2 or 3 banks of batteries in accordance with the battery manufacturers specification. Entirely automatic with built-in charge distribution they can remain permanently connected to the batteries in complete safety. MBC chargers are protected against polarity reversal and transient short-circuits.

This charger is made for all types of lead-acid chargeable batteries, including GEL batteries. It is a fully automatic charger with an UI charging characteristic. The Studer MBC 24-03/1 3A 24V Battery Charger can permanently be connected to the battery without the risk of overcharging. When the battery is fully charged the charger automatically switches over to the floating charging (yellow and green LED lit, 13.8/27.6 V). This will continue until the charger is switched off. The charger automatically starts the mains charging mode after a mains-break (yellow LED lit 14.4/28.8 V). The charger is waterproof (IP65).

The charger can simply be placed in any position on a clean and dry surface using 4 screws or bolts. Connect the red wire to
the positive battery terminal and the black wire to the negative battery terminal. Connect the mains cable to a 230/115 Vac
mains voltage outlet.

As a rule of thumb your battery charger should be a minimum of 10% of the Ah rating of the battery. E.g A 100Ah battery would require a 10 Amp charger as a minimum. To prevent overcharging you should keep the charger size to within 20% of the total capacity.

Most battery manufacturers recommend sizing the charger at about 25% of the battery capacity (ah = amp hour capacity). Thus, a 100 ah 24 volt battery pack would take about a 25 amp 24 volt charger (or less). Larger chargers may be used to decrease charge time, but may decrease battery life.

Charging your battery at 12 volts and 20 amps will take five hours to charge a 100 amp hour battery. By multiplying 20 amps by 12 volts, 240 watts is how big of a panel you would need, so we’d recommend using a 300w solar panel or 3 100 watt solar panels.

Take the power produced by the solar panels and divide by the voltage of the batteries. For example: Example: A solar array is producing 1 kw and charging a battery bank of 24V. The controller size is then 1000/24 = 41.67 amps.

The batteries with higher amp hours deliver more power and more performance, allowing the battery to work for a longer time on a full charge as compared to the cells with lower amp hours. As the AH or amp-hours rating of the battery indicates the consumers about the amperage that a battery will provide in one hour.

If your battery is reading 0 volts, chances are the battery experienced a short circuit. If the battery cannot reach higher than 10.5 volts when being charged, then the battery has a dead cell. If the battery is fully charged (according to the battery charger) but the voltage is 12.5 or less, the battery is sulfated.

The exception to this rule is when using solar panels smaller than 5 Watts. Select a charge controller that is compatible with the system voltage. The standard configurations are 12, 24, and 48 volts. If you are wiring your batteries for 24 volts you need a charge controller that is rated at 24 volts.
