Solis Ginlong Export Power Manager 5G PLUS – TECH TIP
The Solis range of power managers allow you to reduce the maximum export of a site with a G100 approved limiting solution. This means that customers can install beyond the maximum export capacity allowed by their local DNO if they can prove to that body that the system, despite having high capacity, will not export greater than the pre-defined limit. This is a great feature because many properties do have high levels of usage which they can’t completely satisfy with their PV due to the limitations imposed upon them by their local DNO’s.

There were however some restrictions on the previous generations in terms of the maximum number of inverters, ease of set-up and generating consumer friendly data.
Cue the 5G PLUS – the next generation of export management
What makes it the best one yet?
- You can connect up to 80 different SOLIS inverters to this device (unfortunately in the UK we are limited to a max of 10 inverters to comply with G100), but this means it is still possible to limit the export from single inverter to large scale systems.
- It’s easy to set-up and commission using the PV System Setup Assistant and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation. You can monitor entire systems directly from the EPM or individually from inverters when leaving COM1 free.
- But what really sets this unit apart from its predecessors is its ability to capture consumption data from the CT clamps and then display it in readable format on SOLIS’s own monitoring platform. This consumption data can be invaluable to customers because it gives them a clear impression of at which points throughout the day their consumption may overtake production, or when production is being limited because the export total has been met. They can then potentially take steps to improve their energy efficiency by using certain loads at certain times, or this may even be an incentive to increase the size of the system if this data shows little to no export limitation taking place (due to the consumption levels consistently being higher than production).
So, it’s a yes from Jordan (Technical support Segen Limited UK), and it’s a yes from us!
